CareAware Connect Messenger

Description

As a part of UX's initiative to create a holistic design system, CareAware Connect Messenger was one of the first products to uplift to the new visual language, One Cerner Style (OCS).

Role

In order to ensure the product's success, I was chosen to be a part of a small team of designers that dove in to evaluate the current state of the product, identify workflow areas for improvement, and make recommendations to improve the overall efficiency of the product, streamlining wherever possible.

As I engaged with the product stakeholders, I sought to:

  • Manage cross-functional relationships between Product Management, the OCS team, Tactical Design, and Engineering.

  • Conduct heuristic analysis of the current state workflows.

  • Reconcile business requirements and stakeholder feedback to incorporate enhancements into the product uplift.

  • Make recommendations for workflow alignment to our Cerner Design Standards, defining filtering and search recommendations.

Research

Through heuristic and workflow analysis I identified the directory search feature, which housed various hospital locations, departments, clinicians, and other staff was implemented in a way that was difficult to use unless users understood the backend data structure. Prior to engineering, we validated the proposed future state direction through a moderated A/B test to measure overall improvement.

Study Methodology

  • 24 End Users

  • 4 Client Sites

  • 1-Hour Moderated Sessions

  • 2 Prototypes (HTML & Live Code)

  • 4 Tasks

  • Alternating A/B Designs (to Minimize Sequence Effects)

Findings

  • The new workflow decreased the number of interactions by 80%.

  • The new workflow was 35% faster.

  • The new workflow reduced errors by 173%

  • The overall system usability scale (SUS) score for the new workflow was 99.3%. An overall increase of 120%.
