Patient Kiosk
Description
As a part of UX's initiative to create a holistic design system, Patient Kiosk was one of the first products to work with UX to reimagine the user experience with the new visual language, One Cerner Style (OCS).
Role
In order to ensure the product's success, I was chosen to be a part of a small team of designers that dove in to evaluate the current state of the product, identify workflow areas for improvement, map component usage, and make recommendations to improve the overall efficiency of the product, streamlining wherever possible.
As I engaged with the product stakeholders, I was responsible for:
Managing cross-functional relationships between Product Management, the OCS team, Tactical Design, and Engineering.
Conducting heuristic evaluation on the product and all workflows.
Reconciling business requirements and stakeholder feedback to incorporate enhancements into the product uplift.
Making recommendations for workflow and component alignment to our Cerner Design Standards.
Research
Usability testing was conducted separately first on the original Orion design, then on the OCS design of the Patient Kiosk to identify strengths and opportunities for improvement in the design as well as validate that the OCS design was an improvement from the Orion design previously tested.
Study Methodology
19 participants with a mixed population of over and under 60 years of age with a mix of technology familiarity.
30-Minute Moderated Sessions
2 Prototypes (HTML & Live Code)
5 Workflows
Findings
The overall system usability scale (SUS) score for the new workflows were 80.4%. An overall increase of 14.2%.
OCS design decreased number of touches by 56%
OCS design increased completion rate by 25%
Error rates decreased from an average of 2.1 to 0.1 errors per participant
